I was much further along this time last year...

So while I may have gained a brief lead, I've been swiftly falling behind. At the moment I am 15k+ behind the requirement. Thanksgiving proved to be much busier than planned and many other things keep getting in the way.

But I've started writing again today and I intend to catch up before this long weekend is over. Come hell or high-water, I'm hitting 50k on or before the end of the 30th.

Back to writing.

Nowhere near 15k...

Egads, how did I get so far behind?

I'm currently at 8,476 words - and if you remove all the rambling I did before I started the novel I have 1,418. Blegh.

Alright, it's time to pull up my bootstraps and get my butt typing tomorrow.
Let's try to at least hit 13k, that's only 5k - I think I can do that.

Name Game

Current word count: 8,295

I've hit a little snag - my character is having some sort of identity crisis and doesn't know what her name should be. I started with Maxine, which became Reggie on a random whim and now I'm torn between Zoe and Lena.

Considering I still have 5,000+ words to write I'm going to just run with whatever name is working for me right now...and that's Reggie.

But while I attempted to pull up new names, I found a few great sources:

Random Name Generator - Uses names from the US Census and let's you decide the degree of obscurity.

Most Common Surnames in the US - Pretty self explantory and incredibly helpful

Baby Names World - My favorite baby name site. Names are search-able by meaning, origin, popularity and even year (all the way back to the 1800s).


Alright, time to get back to writing.

A bit behind...

So this weekend got away from me - it's Day 8 and I'm currently 5,956 words behind.
Terrible, I know...

In fact, the new NaNo Stats meter has been taunting me with threats that at my current rate I'll finish on December 25th. Bah! Catching up 6k is easy as pie and I will finish by the 30th (with an extra 20k at least).

In fact, let's sweeten the deal. If I don't catch up before 1:32am tonight (a full 12 hours), I won't be allowed to drink soda or eat candy (which I have plenty of) until December.

It begins with a bang

So I started NaNo with a bang. In fact I managed to knock out 4300 words the first day and hit 8037 the second day. And all of this writing has been on the backup novel, which has frankly both charmed me and become incredibly weird. And with any words quickly written, they sound as if a small child wrote them.

But they are written and that is better than nothing at all.

Now as for today...I wrote nothing. Yep. Nothing.

Illness and lack of sleep have caught up with me. I want to write but as midnight looms in under an hour, three thousand words looks daunting. That and I have a headache.

So I shall let Jean have her lead for another day and resume my writing fury tomorrow. The rest will truly make the difference for my sanity and my health.

So tired...because this weekend was hell.
I'm 5k behind at the moment and tomorrow I'll technically be 8k behind. I say technically because I am going to be lenient with myself because I have been far too busy to get much written anyway.

Things are still moving--just really really slowly.

Sigh. I won't stop writing though, because I really don't want to take the chance that I'll abandon this project like I've done with others before.
